Celebrate the movies of director Alan Parker! This film series continues with the 1990 film “Come See the Paradise,” rated R, 2 hours 18 minutes, a historic romance starring Dennis Quaid and Tamlyn Tomita on May 4th. On May 11th, we’ll show the 1980 musical “Fame,” rated R, 2 hours 14 minutes, starring Eddie Barth and Irene Cara. Finally, on May 18th we’ll show the 1999 film “Angela’s Ashes,” rated R, 2 hours 25 minutes, starring Emily Watson and Robert Carlyle.
This film series is being shown in anticipation of a talk given by Alan Parker expert, David Gonthier, hosted by the Friends of the Library. Regal Bellingham Cinemas generously provides the popcorn. The Outreach Department would like to announce the winners of the Fifth Annual Essay Contest. Our topic was “The Bravest Character I Know.” Click here to see a fun graphic of the winners and titles, or read below to see our winners.
The celebration will be held in the Simoni Room on Monday, May 9th, from 7-9 pm. The winners will be reading their essays at that time. Please join us. In the meantime, stop by the library to see a poster that honors our entrants.

Story times in the great outdoors? Why not?!? In May, the Children’s Room has partnered with Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary in Sharon, MA to create three special story times for preschoolers. All story times will take place at Moose Hill and feature animal-themed stories, a craft, and an outdoor exploration component (weather permitting!).
