Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  May I return my materials to other library locations?
A:  You may return materials to any Minuteman Library

Q:  Can I request a book that Minuteman doesn’t own?
A:  Yes, your request may be through the Virtual Catalog or Interlibrary Loan.

Q:  Does the library keep the fines/fees money?
A:  the fines/fees money goes back to the Town General Fund.

Q:  May I take out materials without my library card?
A:  You must bring your card to take out materials. If you forget your card, we can look up your number for a 50 cent charge, or apply for a new card for $1.00.

Q:  May I renew an item more than once?
A:  Most material may be renewed up to three times if there are no outstanding requests for it.

Q:  I’ve lost my library card, is there a charge for a replacement card?
A:  You can get a new card for a $1.00 fee.

Q:  I am returning items for a family member or friends. Can you tell me what they still have out?
A:  No, we cannot disclose any information about other individuals’ accounts.

Q:  Can I pick up a reserve for a family member or friend?
A:   Because of privacy laws in the state of Massachusetts, only if you have his or her card or reserve notice in hand. Without the notice or the card, our staff is unable to give you the reserve. It does not matter if you know what the item is (i.e. its title, the author or subject).

Q:  My children’s borrowing is my responsibility. Can you let me have access to their accounts?
A:  Once a child has been issued his or her own card, the account information is confidential regardless of age or relationship.

Q:  How many items may I take out?
A: There is no limit to the number of books you can take out. You may take out up to four videos or television series at a time. Certain seasonal items, like childrens’ holiday books, often have limits on what you can take out. Check with a staff member if you aren’t sure!

Q:  Does the library accept donations of used books and movies?
A:  Donations are accepted for the Friends’ book sale.

Q:  What museum passes do you have?
