Alan Parker Film Series: “Evita”

evitaCelebrate the movies of director Alan Parker! This film series kicks off with “Evita,” rated PG, 2 hours 15 minutes, a 1996 musical starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas. Next, we’ll show “Come See the Paradise,” rated R, 2 hours 18 minutes, a 1990 film starring Denis Quaid and Tamlyn Tomita on May 4th. On May 11th, we’ll show the 1980 musical “Fame,” rated R, 2 hours 14 minutes, starring Eddie Barth and Irene Cara. Finally, on May 18th we’ll show the 1999 film “Angela’s Ashes,” rated R, 2 hours 25 minutes, starring Emily Watson and Robert Carlyle.

This film series is being shown in anticipation of a talk given by Alan Parker expert, David Gonthier, hosted by the Friends of the Library. Regal Bellingham Cinemas generously provides the popcorn. Not Your Average Christmas Movie Film Fest: “Trading Places”

The series wraps up with “Trading Places,” a 1983 film starring Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy, about a rich man and a poor man who swap lives during the holidays (rated R, 116 minutes).

Not Your Average Christmas Movie Film Fest: “The Family Stone”

The series continues with “The Family Stone,” (2005) a funny yet heart-felt film about the drama and strength of family ties during the holidays (PG-13, 103 minutes). The star-studded cast of this film includes Diane Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Sarah Jessica Parker, Craig T. Nelson, and Luke Wilson. The series wraps up with “Trading Places” on Wednesday December 16th.

The series kicks off with “This Christmas,” a 2007 film starring Regina King, Loretta Devine, Delroy Lindo, and Idris Elba, about a far-flung African American family that is finally reunited for the holidays (PG-13, 117 minutes). The series continues with “The Family Stone” on Wednesday December 9th, and “Trading Places” on Wednesday December 16th.
