Spring Musical Sundays Concert Series: Quintessential Brass

quintessential_brassOur Spring Musical Sundays series continues with a concert by Quintessential Brass. The brass quintet will perform a variety of jazz, rock, and pop numbers as well as music from TV, movies, and Broadway. Their current repertoire includes the music of Leonard Bernstein, Henry Mancini, Jason Mraz, the Beach Boys, John Williams, John Phillip Sousa, Little Feat, Herb Alpert, and Chicago, in addition to selections from “Frozen” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Quintessential Brass consists of five full-time professional musicians who have, individually, played with groups all over the world, recorded CDs and movie soundtracks, and performed for presidents, at venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.

Spring Musical Sundays Concert Series: Sonny and Perley

sonnyandperleyTo conclude our Spring Musical Sundays series, Sonny and Perley will perform “The Great American Songbook and International Cabaret.” The concert will include the music of composers including Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, James Mercer, Duke Ellington, Edith Piaf, and many others, interpreted and performed in their own inimitable style.

Musical Sundays Concert–‘Songs of Home: Near and Far’ with Beth Purcell and Chris Roppola

bethpurcellThe Spring Musical Sundays series continues with a concert by Beth Purcell (vocals) and Chris Roppola (piano). This talented duo will present “Songs of Home: Near and Far,” including “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home t0,” “Wouldn’t it Be Loverly,” “Mr. Snow,” and other well-loved and lesser known gems by contemporary and standard American Songbook composers.

Beth Purcell has a broad background in musical theater which enriches her interpretation of songs in the American Songbook. From jazz cafes to performance halls, she has entertained throughout New England with leading roles in Rodgers & Hammerstein, Cole Porter, and Sondheim productions.

The remaining Musical Sundays concerts in the series include performances by  Quintessential Brass on April 24th and by Sonny and Perley, who will present “The Great American Songbook & International Cabaret” on May 1st. All concerts begin at 3:00 pm. Spring Musical Sundays Concert Series: Howie Newman & Jackie Damsky

Howie-Newman-Jackie-DamskyThe Spring Musical Sundays series kicks off with a concert by Boston-based Howie Newman and Jackie Damsky. This singing, guitar and fiddle playing duo specializes in acoustic folk rock, performing covers of well-known tunes plus original songs. Newman and Damsky encourage audience participation.

The following Spring Musical Sundays concerts include Beth Purcell and pianist performing tunes from the American Songbook on April 3rd, Quintessential Brass on April 24th, and the Great American Songbook & International Cabaret on May 1st. All concerts begin at 3:00 pm.
