When we think about World War II and the devastation that Germany inflicted on its surrounding countries, Poland is a country that is sometimes forgotten. In her book The Zookeeper’s Wife: A War Story, Diane Ackerman unveils the lives of two zookeepers, Jan and Antonina Zabinski, who rise above their fear of discovery by the Germans, to smuggle Jews into the empty cages at their city zoo. A copy of the book is available at the library and anyone is welcome to attend.
